The voice of sanity
An important topic included in the third part, The Central Teachings of the Gita, is “Who is Krishna?”. As everyone who has heard of the Bhagavad Gita knows, the Bhagavad Gita has presented Krishna – the eighth earthly incarnation of Lord Vishnu – as Arjuna’s charioteer. As the teaching progresses, Krishna reveals himself as the very Lord of the Universe, the God of gods. But what (or who) exactly is the being or entity referred to by these metaphorical expressions?
In many of the verses, Krishna (or the source from which the teachings flow) refers to himself (or itself) as “Me” or “I”, and so if the readers don’t get a clear idea of what the name Krishna really means, they won’t be able to understand what those verses mean. Under the topic “Who is Krishna?”, Prof. Nair examines this question thoroughly, and by analysing the various verses in the Bhagavad Gita comes up with a clear answer.
Prof. Nair’s Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the first detailed study that grapples with this question squarely and penetrates the veil created by metaphorical language. |
